Transportation Management (TMS)

Destinations

A Destination is a catalog in the Transportation Management (TMS) module that represents the final place where merchandise is delivered (a city, zone or drop-off point). Once created, a Destination becomes available to link to your Customers' and Vendors' Addresses, to your trips' Routes and freight Rates, to sales Budgets and, if your company needs it, to your Items' Price Levels, so the selling price can vary depending on where the item is delivered.

Module: Transportation Management (TMS) Requires the "Destinations" permission on your user group

What is it and what is it for?

Each Destination is simply a name that identifies a delivery point. Its value comes from being reusable once registered, as a dimension across several parts of the system to calculate freight cost and selling price based on where the merchandise is going:

  • On your Customers' and Vendors' Addresses, to record which Destination each address corresponds to.
  • On TMS Routes, which define a path from an origin Location to a Destination.
  • On freight Rates, which are quoted based on the Destination the trip is headed to.
  • On Item Price Levels, so an item's price can vary depending on the Destination (the "Prices by Destination" feature).
  • On sales Budgets, to plan and compare expected sales by Destination.

A Destination can also be optionally linked to a Sales Territory, so you can group and report on your destinations by sales zone.

How to use it

  1. Open the list and click Create. You need the "add" level of the Destinations permission.
  2. Enter the Name of the destination (for example, the delivery city or zone's name). It's the only required field.
  3. Link it to a Sales Territory, if you want to be able to group this destination within a broader sales zone for your reports.
  4. Add Notes, if you need to leave a free-text remark about the destination.
  5. Save the record. From then on, the Destination is available to pick on Addresses, Routes, Rates, Budgets and Item Price Levels.

Key capabilities

  • List with search by name and column customization (show or hide the Sales Territory and Notes columns, and save your own configuration).
  • Fast autocomplete search on every destination selection field elsewhere (Addresses, Routes, Rates, Budgets, Price Levels).
  • Optional link to a Sales Territory, to group destinations by sales zone in your reports.
  • The foundation for "Prices by Destination", letting an item's price vary depending on where it's delivered.
  • Protected deletion: AdmCloud warns you and blocks deleting a destination that is already in use elsewhere.

Key fields

Field What it's for
NameIdentifies the destination throughout the system. Required, and can't be repeated.
Sales TerritoryGroups this destination within a broader sales zone, for filtering and comparing reports. Optional.
NotesFree-text remarks about the destination.

Validations on save

  • Name is required.
  • Name can't be repeated; you can't create two destinations with the same name.
  • When deleting a destination, AdmCloud checks that it's not being used on:
    • Customer or Vendor Addresses.
    • TMS Routes (as the route's destination).
    • Item Price Levels.
    • Sales Budgets.
If any of these dependencies exist, it shows the related records' detail and blocks the deletion.

Availability

  • Browsing, creating, editing and deleting Destinations requires the "Destinations" permission on your user group, with separate levels for each action.
  • The Destinations catalog is only available on the Enterprise plan, with the Transportation Management (TMS) module active on your company. If you don't see this screen in your menu, contact AdmCloud to have the module enabled.
  • The "Prices by Destination" feature on Item Price Levels also depends on having this same TMS module active.

Tips and common mistakes

⚠️

"Can't delete because it has related records": means the destination is already linked to an Address, Route, Item Price Level or Budget. Check the message's detail to see where it's being used before trying to delete it again.

⚠️

"Record already exists": you already have a destination saved with that same name. Look it up in the list instead of creating a duplicate.

💡

Keep names consistent with your Sales Territories. If your destinations represent cities or zones within the same sales territory, link them from the start: that way your sales and freight reports line up by zone without needing later adjustments.
